Expect My Coming: I Stand at the Door, Day 26

You may be wondering why I have come to you, why I am seeking you at this particular time in your life. I will tell you.

I come to you, knocking on your door, because I love you unconditionally and I want your life to be fulfilled. Without me you can never know life in its fullness. I have been at work in your life for a long time and you have frequently been aware of my presence at the margin of your consciousness. You have glimpsed me on the periphery of your awareness. I am now addressing you directly. I want you to listen to me face to face. Become intentional in listening to me. Join me in announcing and demonstrating the power of my kingdom.

Yes, I want to work through your life. Do not be alarmed. It is no strange things for me to choose to use a person’s life; it is my way of working in the world. It is the way I have always worked in history, through persons. My father’s people have always lived by promises of blessing and fulfillment. In their darkest hours they relied on the faithfulness of the Covenant Maker to see them through. I will also make promises to you.

– Ben Johnson, I Stand at the Door, CTS Press, 1986, 16-17.

4  Remain in me, and I will remain in you. A branch can’t produce fruit by itself, but must remain in the vine. Likewise, you can’t produce fruit unless you remain in me.

John 15:4

Imagine what it might look like for God to use you in the ways described here – to announce and demonstrate the power of God’s Kingdom – as you live out your daily life.  Ask God to help you as you seek to enter into this journey of deepened relationship and purpose.

Holy God,
It is hard for me to imagine
that you would choose me to do your work in the world.
And yet, I know the Bible is full of stories of ordinary people,
just like me,
so I am reminded that this has always been your way.
Help me to trust you
and your vision for my life.
Help me to relinquish my will – my wants and desires
and instead let your will – your dreams and plans
become the motivating force in my life.
Amen
