Luke 1
Scripture Focus:
“For no word from God will ever fail.” (Luke 1:37)
Reflection:
Luke begins his Gospel with a swirl of angelic announcements, impossible promises, and human doubts. Zechariah is struck silent when he cannot believe that God will give him and Elizabeth a child in their old age. Mary is told she will bear the Son of God, and though she asks how, her heart leans toward faith: “I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled.”
The first chapter of Luke reminds us that Advent begins not with certainty, but with waiting and wonder. God steps into ordinary lives—an elderly couple, a young village girl—and announces that His plan to redeem the world is already unfolding. The invitation to us is the same: to believe that His promises are trustworthy, even when they seem beyond reason.
Prayer:
Lord, as Advent begins, open our hearts to Your promises. Help us trust that Your Word never fails. Like Mary, may we say “yes” to You, and like Zechariah, may our doubts be turned into praise. Amen.
Practice:
Take a moment today to sit in silence. Whisper Mary’s words: “I am the Lord’s servant.” Carry them with you as a prayer of surrender and trust.
